Safety / Evacuation Monitor Duties

Each tenant is responsible for appointing Safety/Evacuation Monitor(s) and a back up for each of the Monitor(s). The tenant shall submit a completed Safety/Evacuation Monitor Roster and return it to Transwestern’s Property Management Office via email. The duties of the Monitor(s) include familiarizing themselves with:

  1. Their own office layout.
  2. Individuals within their company who require special assistance in evacuation.
  3. Areas within their office, which may not be able to hear the fire alarm system.
  4. Location of all building exits.
  5. Location and operation of the fire alarm system.
  6. Location and operation of available fire extinguishing equipment.

In the event of a fire, the Safety/Evacuation Monitor(s) shall:

  1. Execute their Fire Safety Plan.
  2. See to it that all doors in the office are closed (not locked).
  3. Notify fellow employees.
  4. Direct the evacuation of their group via designated fire exits. If these egress routes are not accessible, know alternate routes and use them.
  5. Ensure the designated “buddy” assigned to assist each handicapped employee is available.
  6. Check all offices, conference rooms, storage areas, lavatories, etc. to assure complete evacuation. Coordinate this effort with your Searchers.
  7. Notify Transwestern Property Management Office and/or the Fire Department of handicapped people who need special assistance, any injuries, or any one who cannot be accounted for.
